The accident report says it all

My synopsis
(A line by line, code by code, interpretation will be provided soon.)
|
- The motorcycle was doing 20mph & the Sheriff car 45mph at the point of impact.
- The motorcycle was pushed 70 feet after impact.
- The maximum speed during the chase was 60mph in a 55mph zone.
- The accident report cites the cause of the accident to be "Rear End, Slow, or Stop
- rear end collision with one vehicle going at a slower speed, slowing down or stopping in
traffic"
- The accident report cites the motorcyclist with "Improper or no signal" &
"Operated vehicle in erratic, reckless, careless, negligent or aggressive
manner"
- The accident report cites the patrol car with "Failure to reduce speed"
- No where in the police report does it mention any other vehicle being a factor in the
accident (i.e.: obstructing the patrol cars view) yet the Sheriff's department blamed the
accident on the fact that the officers view was obstructed.

A few more of my own thoughts
One paper reported there was confusion at the time of the accident & the officer
reported the motorcyclist fleeing on foot & a few minutes later the officer returned
to his car to report the motorcyclist was actually under his car. (911 tape)
The other report (Sheriff's words) is that some phantom car obstructed the officer's view
& when he again obtained a visual on the motorcycle it was oh my god bang & he ran
him over.
It seems to me they can't get their story straight. There were NO skid marks reported
except for the tire tracks found on the motorcyclists shirt (autopsy report). That means
the cop hit the bike at 45mph when the bike was doing 20mph. Taking a turn on a bike at
20mph hardly sounds like a crazed out of control crank junkie to me. Some people have
focused on the potential of innocent victims as a result of the motorcyclist. How about
the cop trying to take a turn at 45mph when according to his sheriff's department he
couldn't see where he was going. He couldn't see a 349lb man on a 700lb motorcycle in
front of him taking a turn at 45mph. Shouldn't we be trying to find out why the sheriff
was driving beyond his abilities?
This will all come out eventually. I 100% agree that the motorcyclist deserved to receive
the usual punishment for the crimes he committed but I don't believe any of them
individually or lumped together would warrant the sentence of death.
Things aren't always as they seem & not all the facts are always reported. |
